ACADEMIC PLAN:

1) Research Paper Due March 1st 2013

A critical study of this artist's current work as it relates to historical and contemporary art movements in our society, including influences on the artist stylistically and in medium.  Discuss the artist's postmodernist bent in political and social issues.  1500 words based on pre-first residency critical theory readings.

2) Research Paper Due April 1st 2013

Review of ten artists whose work is appealing to this artist and ten artists whose work is ill-favored by this artist.  Discuss the reasons stylistically and in concept why the comparisons to these works emerge as positive or negative to this artist's sensibilities.  1500 words based on new research.

3) Research Paper Due May 1st 2013

Discussion of the direction this artist's work has taken in the previous 2-1/2 months in relation to the influences of current and contemporary artists upon this artist, and a discussion of the direction these realizations have taken this artist in his work.  Relate this to a projection of the future direction this artist's work will take in relation to these influences.

ACADEMIC PLAN & STUDIO WORK

STUDIO WORK:

Goal:  To modify the direction of this artist's work to more closely resemble the mainstream direction of current contemporary art movements.

Artist's self-imposed deadlines:

By February 1st, 2013 - Ten studies utilizing more abstract and less literal methods of assembling montages used in the artist's work (media: computer, drawing, and montage).

By March 1st, 2013 - Experiment in simplifying artist's images with the intent of making the concepts contained therein more abstract.  Experiment with actual (non-virtual) collage by cutting parts of images from this artist's prints and reassembling the images (5-10 works).

By April 1st, 2013 - Determine how the artist's work relates to current contemporary art and provide visual studies of concepts that coincide with contemporary sensibilities.

By May 1st, 2013 - Provide works that embody the determinations made in the previous months' studies in the relationship between the artist's work and contemporary art.  Quantity of works to be determined by the complexity and direction the artist's work takes.

By June 1st, 2013 - Refinement of works conceived to date and realization of each work in a form suitable for presentation.

By June 21st, 2013 - Refinement and printing of presentation of works for June 2013 residency.
